We recently invested in photo and video material to memorize the amazing moments we spend on St Maarten as a family. Before choosing our material we did many researches on the most cost-effective cameras out there. We mainly looked at Amazon reviews that are for us more trustworthy than any other website out there or even any sellers from retailing stores.

We wanted a nice SLR camera to take great quality shots, a video camcorder to make videos and a Go Pro camera to go under the water or take some cool action videos.

Here is the material we purchased and that we don’t regret a second:

The Canon EOS Rebel T6  camera is one of the best cameras out there. Of course there are newer versions but we had a budget and didn’t want to go over it. And for a decent price, this camera takes professional quality photos.

We got the Canon Vixia HF R72 camcorder and it makes amazing movies. It has a 57x advanced zoom which is pretty cool to capture actions that happen faraway, and captures video at 1920 x 1080 resolution that gives amazing imaging performances.

We didn’t want to go over our budget so we purchased the Apeman action camera that is similar to the Go Pro but much cheaper. To me the quality is great. And even if we highly hesitated before making this purchase (because the Gopro is so known, and this one is not really famous), today we don’t regret our purchase at all. The only negative point is that the sound is not that great when you put the waterproof protection on it compared to the Gopro Hero 5 that doesn’t need any waterproof protection, but if you only want a camera like this to go under the water or to record some actions, it is a pretty good investment.

You might also need some extra accessories to use your action camera, such as the head holder, the selfie stick, or the handle for water activities.

To take great photos and record nice movies it is sometimes necessary to have a tripod, and here is one that is pretty good for its price.

Our next investment will probably be a drone… the DJI Mavic Pro! It is not the cheapest one but right now it is the best on the market because not only it takes amazing 4K shots but you can also fold it and simply put it in your backpack to easily carry it with you everywhere.
